Caduta e redenzione nella morte di Ivan Il’ič. Una lettura gnostica
Abstract
Il saggio intende proporre una lettura gnostica del racconto La morte di Ivan Il’ič di Lev. N. Tolstoj. Attraverso l’episodio della caduta e l’esperienza trasformatrice della morte, lo scrittore russo è riuscito a descrivere – nella forma narrativa – alcune delle questioni fondanti dell’esistenza umana. Più che un episodio accidentale, la caduta è la metafora di un evento originario e radicale che precipita l’umano nel tempo della vita segnando così l’inizio di un’esistenza dolorosa e travagliata che si conclude soltanto con la propria morte e il ritorno alla luce gnostica del niente.
The paper intends to propose a Gnostic reading of Lev N. Tolstoy’s story The Death of Ivan Il’ič. Through the episode of the fall and the transformative experience of death, the Russian writer managed to describe – in the narrative form – some of the fundamental questions of human existence. More than an accidental episode, the fall is the metaphor of an original and radical event that precipitates the human in Time of life, thus marking the beginning of a painful and troubled existence that ends only with one’s own death and the return to the Gnostic light of nothingness.
